What Is FMGE/NExT?

The FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) is a screening test conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) for Indian citizens who have obtained a medical degree from a foreign university. Passing FMGE is mandatory to get registration with the NMC and practice medicine in India.

The NExT (National Exit Test) is planned to replace FMGE as a unified exit examination for all medical graduates.

FMGE Eligibility

  • Indian citizen or OCI cardholder
  • Possess a primary medical qualification from a recognized foreign university
  • Completed the required internship period
  • The foreign university must be recognized by NMC
